NAPLAN
In 2023, the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) introduced new proficiency standards for reporting NAPLAN results. These standards provide clearer information about how students are performing against national expectations at the time of testing.
The four proficiency levels are:
-
Exceeding – The student’s result exceeds the expected standard at the time of testing.
-
Strong – The student’s result meets challenging but appropriate expectations at the time of testing.
-
Developing – The student is progressing towards the expected standard at the time of testing.
-
Needs Additional Support – The student is not yet meeting the expected learning outcomes at the time of testing and is likely to require additional support to make satisfactory progress. Schools have a clear responsibility to ensure these students receive targeted support, informed by NAPLAN data, school-based assessment information, and teachers’ professional knowledge of each child.
